Holbox Junior Open 2023

From July 10 to 13, the fourth edition of the Holbox Junior Open was played at the Herkenbosche Golf Club. The forest course near Roermond was in perfect tournament condition, which made the tournament a real challenge and a fantastic experience for 75 participants from 12 different countries. At the Herkenbosche, in the Boys U18, Kieron Kaube from Germany came out on top after three rounds of golf. This puts him on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Dutch talents Dene Vos, Gianni van der Veeke and Kayden Chang just missed out on the top prize. Sybrook talent Jip Kockmann won in the Boys U14 category and even placed 5th overall. Michel van Zijl won in the Boys U23. In the Girls category it was also Orange on top. Britt Op den Winkel (Girls U18), Sophie Korthuijs (Girls U23) and Frederique Evers (Girls U14) all won in their age category. Dutch win Tulip Golf Challenge again

The seventh edition of the Tulip Golf Challenge, played at the Drentsche Golf & Country Club, is also a prey to two top talents from the Netherlands in 2022. On the second day of competition, the 18-year-old course record of Joost Luiten was also shot out of the books. Among the boys, Scott Woltering of the Hilversumsche Golf & Country Club already took a shot at victory on the second day after a round in 68 strokes (-4). This put him four strokes ahead of local hero Michel van Zijl. During the final round his victory was never in danger, partly because van Zijl needed three strokes more than Woltering on the first nine. The latter eventually crowned himself the winner with rounds 73-68-77, four strokes ahead of runner-up Jonathan Scholten (75-74-73) and Kian de Roo (82-66-74). Only 14-year-old Kian de Roo, a member of the Drentsche, managed to record no fewer than nine birdies on Saturday. Although he also made a bogey and a double bogey, with a round in 66 strokes (-6) he improved the course record set by Joost Luiten in 2004. A unique achievement. Among the girls, the eventual winner also took a large lead during the second round after two rounds well under par. Lynn van der Sluis of UGC de Pan has been in form all year and has won twice on the Global Junior Golf Tour. Also in Assen she proved too strong for her competition with an overall score of -6 after rounds in 68, 69 and 73 strokes. With no fewer than five strokes ahead of Germany's Sophie Böhlhoff, she registered her third international title of the season. The youth tournament in Assen, now characteristically called the 'Tulip' by everyone, is starting to become a fixture on the golf calendar of Dutch golf talents. Players like Kiet van der Weele, Koen Kouwenaar and Anne Sterre den Dunnen managed to win previous editions and then broke through permanently as top amateurs. [...]

Holbox Junior Open huge success again!

The final day of the Holbox Junior Open of 2022 was a close one. On the beautiful Herkenbosche Golfclub near Roermond (NL) we had the privilege to host a U14, U18 and U23 category. The greenkeeping staff and volunteers made this edition very special, so many good reasons to come back next year! In the U14 boys category Raphael Aigner (AUT) came in third, Hugo Stoker (NL) in second place and Tom-Erik Froese from Germany claimed the win after a nice last round in 2 under par. In the girls division Swiss player Maja Dultinger, Dutch talent Charlotte Roodenburg and late entry from Germany, Antonia Steiner made it exciting until the last hole. Antonia Steiner claimed her victory with a birdie on hole 18. The gentlemen scored very promising as well. Playing three rounds and finishing under par Bastian Graf (DE, U18, -1) and Rick Hessing (NL, U23, -2) were victorious in this third edition of the Holbox Junior Open. [...]

Pro Golf Events to South Africa for three years

After a successful tryout in March 2019, the Groningen-based golf events agency has entered into a three-year partnership with Global Junior Golf and Golf RSA (the South African Golf Association). The tournament is supported by main sponsor Nomads Foundation. The Nomads South African Juniors International, as the tournament is called in South Africa, is part of Global Junior Golf's international tour calendar, which allows talented golfers up to age 21 to earn world ranking points (WAGR). In 2020, the tournament will be played March 2 - 5 at Rondebosch Golf Club in Cape Town. Pro Golf Events has been busy preparing for the 2020 edition since the 'try-out' in 2019. 'This edition of the Nomads South African Juniors International currently has the strongest field of participants in the Global Junior Golf 2020 calendar,' says van der Schans, owner of the company. 'Of all participants no less than 90% have a so-called plus handicap. It promises to be another wonderful adventure at Rondebosch Golf Club in Cape Town.' Among other things, Pro Golf Events has been organizing the Noordelijke Golf Tour for six years, known among all golfers in (North) Netherlands. In 2016, the organization came into contact with the German party Global Junior Golf for the first time. Van der Schans: "We offered to organize a tournament in the Netherlands that would be part of their tour. There was immediately a good click and thus a basis for the future.' With the organization of the international youth golf tournament the Tulip Golf Challenge at the Drentsche Golf & Country Club in Assen, Pro Golf Events shows the Germans what they have to offer. After a very successful first edition, expansion to Belgium will follow in 2017. Then they may host a prestigious tournament in Portugal and set up the Holbox Junior Open, which takes place at Golf Course de Herkenbosche in Roermond. More information about the Nomads South African Juniors International and Pro Golf Events can be found on their website. The tournament can be followed via livescoring via this link. [...]
